About
Backsberg was established in 1916 by C.L. Back, who initially arrived in the Cape as a penniless refugee. Over 100 years later, it remains family-run, maintaining its reputation for producing world-class wines. The winery is situated on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain south of Paarl, in the heart of the Cape Winelands. The property spans over 200 hectares with much of the land planted to vineyard. Winemaker Alicia Rechner heads up the winery, working closely with Michael and Simon Back to craft seamless, sustainably-farmed wines widely regarded for their finesse and 'drinkability'.
