ILATRAIA is a full-bodied wine with freshness, definition and elegance. This wine has a perfect balance of ripeness and finesse. Our top wine from the Maremma is extremely silky and polished with lovely tannins. The blend of 40% Petit Verdot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc shows all the beauty of this terroir. After 18 months in French barriques (50% new) it remains for at least another year in the bottle.

Vinification
The grapes are only picked by hand and after being stripped and squeezed go directly into the fermentation tanks without pumping, by gravity only. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled cone-shaped steel tanks. We replaced the traditional pumping transfer of mash with a modern pestle. So here too the use of pumps is avoided.
Vineyard
BRANCAIA in Maremma is located in the Morellino di Scansano cultivation area, in the Grosseto Province. Sea Level: 75-175 M a.s.l. Orientation of the vineyards: West, South West Orientation of the vine rows: West-East Inclination of the vineyards: All hillside, 0–12% Soil Type: A sandy, loamy soil consists of two-thirds sand and one-third silt and clay. The percentage of rocks in the soil shows a medium degree of fragmentation providing a good drainige potential. The soil fertility is moderate. Climate: The mediterranean climate and the close location to the coast generate very hot summers and very mild winters. At the same time this region has massive differences between day- and nighttime temperatures. A nearly constant coastal breeze assures a continuous ventilation of the vineyards.
Maturation
18 months in French oak barriques (50% new, 50% already used ones).
