About
Château Haut-Blanville is a family-owned wine estate, that was not inherited, nor was it purchased as is; since 1997 it has been run as a start-up.
Beatrice & Bernard Nivollet started this new project as a second career: Formerly Beatrice was a teacher and Bernard a successful financial advisor. Both had that dream of becoming winemakers when they first fell in love with the Languedoc region while visiting for vacation.
A few years later, they created an estate based on a wine model developed centuries ago in Burgundy. In fact, they were among the first to realize that Languedoc was gifted with an amazing wealth: a diversity of terroirs.
Bernard decided in the early 90’s to craft great wines based on the identification of unique vineyard sites, to produce single parcel wine called Clos “from vine to bottle” at a time when most of the local wineries produced volume and bulk wine.
This thorough approach was such a daring move 20 years ago so it is with pride that people are told that Château Haut-Blanville was among the pioneers to produce terroir-driven wine in the Languedoc region.
Ever since, the team and all the processes have been designed to craft the best parcel wine the vineyards can produce.
Nowadays, the estate has grown to 70ha (170 acres) and Bernard alongside his team still seek for great terroir, plots, lands to grow and improve the property in order to put Château Haut-Blanville on the map of wine lovers worldwide.
In the vineyards, no pesticides or herbicides are spread: thanks to the winemaker’s know-how and the Languedoc climate (hot, dry and windy), the vineyards remain healthy without chemicals used.
