BOSCHENDAL APPELLATION SERIES ELGIN MERLOT 2017
Description
Boschendal Elgin Merlot is singular in its expression of the pristine geographical nuances and the unique character typical of its cool climate vineyard origins. Very strict berry sorting is carried out at the cellar to make sure no green fruit end up in the fermentation vessel. Fermented in open top stainless steel tanks with regular pump-overs. Aged for 18 months in 300-litre French oak barrels (2nd fill) for gentle extraction and excellent integration of flavours and tannins. Typical cool climate Merlot, with understated yet refined varietal black and red fruit. Dark plum coloured rim, with ripe rich cherry and blueberry on the nose and hints of dark chocolate. A rich and elegant wine with strong berry and cherry flavours. Complex and deep reach on the palate with a linear tannin structure, and a fresh, lingering finish.
