FRANSCHHOEK CELLAR RESERVE CHARDONNAY 2018
Description
The taste profile of the Franschhoek Hills Reserve Chardonnay reflects the effort and care that marked its journey from grape to bottle. It exudes delicate and pure citrus flavours on the nose and palate and a hint of salty, cool-climate minerality. Good integration of oak and a creamy mouthfeel add to the complex structure. This elegant wine is imminently drinkable but will gain even more dimension with age and can be cellared for 5-8 years. It is a versatile companion for food, and pairs well with dishes as diverse as beef carpaccio, chicken alfredo and fresh ceviche.

Vineyard
The grapes used for this wine are sourced from selected patches of vineyards known for their expressiveness and purity of fruit. They are located on several cool-climate slopes throughout the Cape Coast wine region and managed for ultra-premium quality. The vineyards are planted in a combination of well-weathered granite and clay soils with excellent water retention, meaning they require very little irrigation and yield grapes with excellent concentration. Clonal selection is also done to meet the wine objective of a classical, restrained style. The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness in the cool early morning hours to retain their natural aromatics and a bracing freshness.
