About
Valdeorras, a region located in the northwest part of Spain, natural gateway to Galicia, is shaped by a deep, bright and fertile valley, through which the rivers Sil, Xares and Bibei flow. Valdeorras, which lies in the middle of the old way “Via Nova” that connected Braga (Portugal) to Astorga (Castilla y Leon, Spain), was a land of transit and destination of the ancient Romans that came to exploit its gold resources. After they finished mining the region for gold and due to its special micro climate (Mediterranean and oceanic), they planted the first vines and built wineries that gave rise to a tradition and culture of grape cultivation and elaboration of fine wines, contained in the songs of the pilgrims on their way to visit St. James’ tomb.
