About
The dedicated couple Doris and Josef Farthofer, with around 40 spirits and liqueurs, are now among the largest organic spirits suppliers in Europe. The two live and work in the Lower Austrian Mostviertel, in Öhling near Amstetten. Its heritage-listed, stylishly renovated showroom, production and residential building from 1874 bears the name Mostelleria, derived from the "signature product" of the house: the MOSTELLO. This is made and tastes like Port, but is from rare, regional Mostviertler pear varieties of orchards. What distinguishes our distillery is our own organic agriculture. While many brands of spirits have to buy the basic schnapps for their whiskeys, vodkas, fruit schnapps and liqueurs, we grow our grain ourselves at our farm in Biberbach, true to the motto "from the field to the bottle". This self-sufficiency is particularly important to us because it ensures our independence. Sustainable management is particularly important for Doris and Josef. Thus, not only are the raw materials at Farthofer bio, but also in the production cycle, the two pay close attention to grow as many raw materials as possible, to efficiently use by-products such as stillage or, for example, the waste heat that is produced during firing, in the municipal network for the supply of public facilities feed. The crystal clear water for the fires comes from a family-owned drinking water source in the neighboring Mühlviertel. On the site around the spring, Josef Farthofer has been running a nature conservation project together with the WWF and the province of Upper Austria for nearly 20 years, which aims to reintroduce rare meadow-breeding birds. Incidentally, the two gained notoriety at the end of 2012 by winning the IWSC Medal and coveted Trophy (International Wine and Spirit Competition London) for their o-vodka as the best vodka in the world in the category 40% alcohol, unflavored
