At the Schmitz Family's Estate on the northern fringe of Stellenbosch, cellarmaster Anton wines are finding their way into bottle, their styling partly influenced by the weaker rand and the resultant need to use less new oak. Serendipitously, the more fruit-driven style works well in Hoopenburg's newer markets such as Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe, and Asia, says GM Anton Beukes, who is delighted to be growing the business in very difficult times.
